I had the pleasure of testing a great outdoor vest for kids (sizes 6m-6yrs unisex and 6m-14 yrs for girls) and for women (sizes XXS-3XL). Laela Jeyne Patterns have many great patterns and this one truly does not disappoint.
The kids version is called the Billie Vest and the Women’s version is called the Willa Vest. The design is made for a looser fit, so that it can be worn with a sweatshirt in the cold months. Here in Arizona, I don’t know what true winter is like, so I will just live through others on that one.
I made my little one the hooded vest (fully detachable hood that connects with snaps), with quilted batting, and the welt pockets. All of these options are included with the pattern. It is made for woven fabrics, and can be fully reversible if you get a reversible zipper.
My little one picked out a super soft faux giraffe fur for her lining, so I actually added some cute little giraffe ears to her hood. (Quick tutorial on that here).
I used sateen fabric for the outside of my women’s vest, and a flannel for the inside. It is so cozy! I also love the detachable hoods!
The majority of the openings are closed with a 1/2″ double fold bias tape (premade or make your own).
This was such a fun vest to make, and the gusset on the hood makes for easy ear additions. I will definitely make so many more of these.
Pick up a copy of each of the patterns while they are on sale!
